Outboard Motor Transom

($246.00)

The River King cataraft can handle a small outboard motor very well. The gradual upward sweep at the ends of cataraft hulls that makes the cataraft hulls so responsive to the oars in rivers and rough water - creates a low pressure area at higher hull speeds that prevents the hulls from planing. Therefore, you'll only need a motor big enough to push the loaded boat through the water at less than planing speeds, typically a five or 9.9 hp will be adequate.

Motor Size (Typical)

(max hp)
For 12 ft hulls 5
For 14 ft hulls 5 or 9.9
For 16 ft hulls 9.9
For 18 ft hulls 9.9

The River King motor transom is made from Skidguard™ plywood - plus two short cross braces that support the transom and connect it to the stern end (typically) of the rowing frame - plus two thrust braces that keep the transom from twisting up when motor thrust is applied. Five screws/bolts attach each short cross brace to the Skidguard™ plate so that you can further disassemble the motor transom if necessary for smaller stowage or transport.

When you register your boat, which you will certainly have to do if you use a motor, use the hull numbers that are attached to your NRS or Aire tubes as the boat serial number. Some states don't require registration for oars or paddle powered craft - others do - check with your state licensing agency.
